Years ago in a mom and pop shop, I came across a landscape painting of the Texas Panhandle. What I remember most of the painting is not the color used or how awe inspiring it was, but a quote/mini story located next to the artist’s signature. Despite having looked for this quote online numerous times, I’ve yet to find it, so I’ll do my best to paraphrase.
When God was creating the earth, he had almost finished when he remembered the Texas Panhandle needed a few finishing touches. God stood there inspecting his unfinished handiwork when it dawned on him to leave things as they were. An angel approached him and inquired “Who would love such an unforgiving land?” God’s response? “Don’t worry, I”ll make a unique kind of individual to love it”
Having lived here, I can attest to the truthfulness of those words. It certainly does take a certain kind of individual to see the beauty in this area.
